[Maybe Izuku had been naive to think that he and Katsuki would have lasted together beyond graduation. He'd been overwhelmed enough by the mere notion that they had gotten together at all, much less that it had lasted for two years. They'd weathered a lot together at this point; a lot of trouble and a lot of fights that they managed to patch over and work through, together. Say what you will about Katsuki, but Izuku cherished the progress they'd made together as friends, if not actual partners. They could actually resolve issues without it becoming a world-ending catastrophy.

But then...graduation came, and Izuku needed to talk to Katsuki about something very important. He just hadn't anticipated the storm it would create that ultimately would cause them to break it off entirely.

They had planned to be hero partners. Or at the very least, they were going to work side-by-side in Japan as they got their feet wet in the hero world. But in the last few months of their school life, Izuku had been talking to All Might intermittently about possibly interning for a while in America, like he had. It would be an insane opportunity, but one that would seperate he and Katsuki for a while...to that end, it wasn't something Izuku just sprung on him at the last second. He brought it up when he and All Might were first discussing it, though assured Katsuki it wasn't set in stone yet, he was just thinking about it...maybe that misunderstanding led Katsuki to believe he wasn't being serious about the internship after all?

Because...when he came to him a month before graduation and brought it up again, letting him know he thought he might really want to do it...that's when things turned ugly.

They fought. It was bad. Katsuki didn't want to hear it and kept accusing Izuku of being wishy-washy and of not being completely up front with him about it to begin with when Izuku had. He didn't hide anything. Izuku didn't want to leave, but it was an opportunity he may never get again. They both had agreed their careers came first, but something about this just hadn't sat right. Izuku could hardly remember exactly how it went, but Katsuki demanded Izuku leave, and he did in tears. After that, they didn't talk. Izuku assumed...they weren't talking, even though nothing to that affect had been said officially.

He knew when he texted Katsuki over and over and got no response. They were done.]

[Ever since going through the brunt of his changes, Izuku had needed to make serious changes to his lifestyle just to live normally. He'd been powerful before, but never to the point where everything he did was affected by it. He had to be careful these days simply sitting down, lest he exert too much effort and crush the chair he'd been moving to sit down into.

Izuku had become a Minotaur, one of the strongest monsters in Ryslig there were. He was a very peculiar one as far as they came, because he hadn't turned into a bull or anything like that. He'd become a sheep. Specifically a Border Leicester with long, upright ears that made people often mistake him for a Pooka from behind. Or...they would, if he weren't so huge. Anyway, things the past few weeks had been...alarmingly quiet. Too quiet for what he'd gotten used to as being the norm here, so he knew something was bound to happen soon.

But what...?

It came on the wind, silently...like a rolling fog no one could see. An aphrodisiac that laced monsters whether they realized it or not, ramping up their hunger by twenty times or more...but it wasn't humans they were hungry for, and yet it was a hunger that starved them all the same. Izuku just hadn't quite sussed out the problem yet as people around him got more and more ornery, leading him to head back to the yurt he had grown too big to stay in any longer to check up on Jiro and Katsuki.]

[In their few years of being licensed professionals, Izuku had been in his fair share of accidents. More than just a few or even a reasonable number of hospital visits for a practicing hero, and that wasn't including all the times he had to have stays while still in school. The number had dwindled over the years as he improved and learned, admittedly, but Izuku was and always would continue to be the one to watch out for when it came to putting himself in harm's way for the sake of saving others.

He'd been in the hospital for a full month, this time. During an altercation with a Villain he'd suffered some fairly grevious injuries, including broken ribs, a femur, and internal bleeding that required a partial body cast that kept him confined to the bed. For the first few days of his stay, he'd been entirely unconscious so...it was scary. His fate hadn't been as certain as it was now, even though after he woke back up he'd just laugh it off and say he was fine. He'd already gotten chewed out by his hero partner and boyfriend Katsuki, whose first response to him waking back up was to yell at him for being such a reckless dumbass.

Well, at least today this reckless dumbass was finally getting to leave the hospital, even if he needed crutches and wouldn't be working again for some weeks.]

[Kirishima didn't do well when it was cold.

He could handle it, yeah, not like he'd ever let a little chill stop him...but it really screwed with his Quirk in a bad way. When your whole gimmick is that your body becomes hard as stone, it means that a lot of the time he spends post-using it is with trying to carefully massage out the hardness in his muscles, especially when he's overworked himself. And when you're used to being stiff, the cold only makes that much worse. It hurts like hell sometimes too, so it's just...not fun all around.

In the winter, especially in Prisma, Kirishima found himself drawn to wanting to Moonlace with people more. It didn't matter who necessarily, especially not on days like this where you could see your breath with every exhale. And on top of everything else, there was something or other going on with the Prismals- again- that they wanted help with. And Kirishima...couldn't ignore that.

So that's why he was out here, in the forest, freezing his ass off. Supposedly they'd make it to the location the Prismals needed them by morning, but it had started snowing so hard they needed to set up camp to wait it out and get some rest. Cue Kirishima sitting himself down by their pathetic, barely alive fire to try and keep himself warm, hoping nobody notices how hard he's trembling with his hands gripping his upper arms.]

[Bakugou Katsuki had been missing for as long as Izuku could remember.

He was barely young enough to understand what it meant when someone went missing, namely someone he called his best friend growing up. They'd been very young, only four or so at the time, when Katsuki had suddenly vanished with seemingly no trace of him left. There had been search parties, and notices posted. He was on TV, and Inko had to carefully explain to her young son why. Heroes searched tirelessly for him to no avail. And after so much time had passed, it had been assumed the young child had either died of exposure or had been kidnapped. As of now, nearly twelve years later, no body had been found.

Izuku still thought about him sometimes, though he didn't know what to make of his disappearance. There had been a funeral for him and everything, so it felt like that was just...it. That he was gone, forever. Maybe one day they'd be able to find his remains and give his parents proper closure, but for the time being his case remained opened and cold. It had been a disgrace for the top heroes of the time, but there was nothing they could do but keep searching down leads even if they went nowhere.

It was around the anniversary of Katsuki's disappearance now, as the last cherry blossoms fell and school was in full swing. Izuku had been on his way that day, walking down the sidewalk towards his middleschool. They'd be graduating soon, and after that they'd be choosing what highschools to go to. Some chose UA, some Shinketsu. Izuku knew who he'd try out for, of course.

He just wished he weren't alone in doing it.]

[Midoriya Izuku wanted to become a great mage and adventure around the world, not necessarily in that order. But to do one required prowess in the other, and...that was still much a work in progress.

Ever since he was young he'd been terribly smart, but smarts and pouring over books and studying spells was only half the journey. The other half, his mother would tell him, was all about skill, a lot of practice, and of course natural talent. His mom had prowess with healing magic, which meant that the seed was there...Izuku just needed to be able to find it and hone it. And once he did that, he'd be able to go on adventures like he craved so desperately as a child. He owed everything to his mother and his life on their farm was simple and important, but he still longed for more. He wanted to see other towns and travel different lands.

But he couldn't do that if he couldn't properly protect himself, which was part of the reason he wanted to learn more defensive magic on top of the healing spells his mom had already been teaching him from a young age. Learning them was one thing, but applying them well was entirely another...

Then, one day, Izuku struck a different kind of idea when he'd been perusing books from the meager town library. What if, at least while he was still learning, instead of relying solely on his own merit for protection...he summoned a creature that could protect him, too? Many if not all mages had familiars after all, mystical creatures bonded to their masters that both protected them and provided them with an additional source of mana. That, Izuku figured, was the key.

He picks up a book dedicated to summoning rituals on his way home from the market, bringing it back with his armful of produce that he drops off in the kitchen for his mother before hurrying to his room in the loft upstairs. From there, he spends the next several hours pouring over the tome, ends up missing dinner for it even which his mother brings up to him and leaves on his desk while he works. She's long in bed by the time Izuku feels like he has everything prepared. Summoning circle in place, various items used for catalysts, candles carefully placed...

All that was left was the ritual itself.]

[The town was having its annual festival that honored the best heroes in the country from every prefecture in Japan. This ward itself was rather small, but this festival was the one place that everyone flocked to yearly, so if you wanted to see the best heroes and peddle your best wares, this was the best time to do it. Everyone in town from civilian to non would be spending most of the months leading up to it preparing for the festivities, generating stock to be sold or shown off in the hopes that they'd make back the difference or- perhaps- get to rub elbows with some of the best upcoming heroes.

That's exactly what Izuku Midoriya was doing for this festival.

Having been born Quirkless, discovering so at a young age, instead of wallowing in his despair for too long Izuku had chosen to put his efforts into learning how to create new support items for heroes to use. If he couldn't become a hero himself, then the next best thing would be to provide support for them, and early on his intelligence and quick thinking earned him praise from his teachers and peers alike. Things had been going well for him despite his misfortunes, having lacked both a Quirk as well as losing his childhood best friend to an early move...

Things had been going well, until the fateful day he'd gotten caught up in an awful tussle in the middle of the square, being too brave (or stupid) to stop himself from jumping in the fray regardless of no ability to truly help. They had been thieves, and one of them- a big, burly man with the head of a dog- had bitten him hard on the left shoulder, rendering him unconscious from the pain. And when he awoke...

He was a dog, too. And so now, Izuku was no longer a Quirkless human, but a human with something like a transferred Quirk. A rare ability that he knew not the remedy for, only that he'd been given all the attributes of a canine and nothing more. He'd been living this way for a few months now, which had slowed his production of his support items considerably. The festival itself was happening today and here he was, stuck helping his family decorate the square instead of getting his creations ready...]
